JMS welcomes job seekers of all types regardless of age, experience,
church affiliation, religious belief, or economic standing. We encourage you
to attend one of our upcoming events (See
Calendar
page). You can pre-register on the
Seekers
page in
this website or you can sign-up when you arrive at our event.
JMS is NOT a placement office. Our focus is not to make direct placements
like a recruiter might do. Instead, JMS provides a process and a platform
for employers and recruiters to share their job openings with job seekers. A
job candidate who participates in JMS will get regular daily announcements
about new job opportunities. It is up to the candidate to pursue the job
leads, make the necessary contacts, and follow-up on the job lead by
themselves.
JMS is an independent Texas non-profit corporation. We have no direct
affiliation with one area church. Rather, we rely upon faithful assistance
from a number of the area churches. If your church has a specific need or
interest in participating in JMS activities, we can visit with your church
leadership to assess the desire and opportunity. Please call our office at
832-789-9567.
JMS was founded by Doug Thorpe in August of 2008. A large number of well
qualified volunteers provide time and expertise to share with people coming
to JMS. Guest speakers at JMS donate their time and talent to share their
knowledge and guidance.
JMS is a non-profit, faith based community organization. Participation in
most of our events is FREE. We do ask participants to consider an average
monthly minimum contribution of $20.00. However, no one will be
denied services for failing to make these contributions.
JMS does, from time to time, offer seminars and special events that may
require a registration fee. Any announcements about these events will
clearly state the applicable fee to attend.
JMS does offer one-on-one job search coaching that will include a résumé
review, accomplishments worksheet, and various job search planning ideas.
This service is fee based and is provided by a group of our subject matter
experts. Fees for these services may vary. Please contact us for
rates and terms. It is totally optional and if used,
can become an income tax deduction. Contact for inquiries

A successful job search is a very personal thing. Each and every job
search takes on a shape and life of its own that is unique to the
individual. Some authorities say that you can reasonably expect one month on
the search for each $10,000 you want to earn. However, if applied properly,
the information, tools, tricks, tips, and techniques offered by JMS should
accelerate that search. Still,
JMS cannot make any
statement or guaranty for the length of time you may spend in your personal
job search.
We get asked this question a lot. JMS is a faith based
community organization, following the guidelines established by the
U.S. Department of Labor and the White House Office on Faith Based
Initiatives. We are not associated with any one particular
denomination or creed. We DO believe that a person's faith is a key
component in maintaining the hope necessary to have a successful
job transition. Therefore, a regular part of our weekly program is a
time of reflection and spiritual inspiration. For some, this may be
too much "religion". For others, it may not be enough. However, the
vast majority of our participants can tell you it is just right.
